Windows Phone Games

Luno is a somewhat interesting Windows Phone game where you are called upon to help a young boy, Luno, find his way through the woods and safely home.

The challenge is that Luno is sleep walking and isn't being very careful where he steps. You have to protect him from bear traps, crows, thorny bushes and other dangers as he treks through the woods. The side scrolling game is available for low-memory Windows Phones and has nicely drawn up graphics, challenging game play and overall, a fun title to have in your Windows Phone gaming library.

Monster Castle is a Windows Phone where you play the role of the monster, defending your castle from an invasion of heroes and taking the fight to the hero's castles. The game is part tower defense, part city builder and part social game. You play the role of an exiled chief of monsters who has to rebuild an abandoned castle, raise an army of orcs, goblins and other ghastly creatures, defend the homestead and seek out heroes throughout the country.

Available for low-memory devices, Monster Castle does require a data connection to play. After playing this anti-hero Windows Phone game for the past few days, Monster Castle comes across as a fun time waster of a game well worth trying.

Microsoft has developed or helped develop a boat load of Windows Phone apps and games over the years and to help you get pointed in the right direction to find these titles, the Windows Phone Store has a Made by Microsoft Collection.

If you do a keyword search for "Microsoft" in the Store, you'll come up with three pages of apps and games that Microsoft has played a role in developing. The Collection pulls twenty-eight of these titles under one roof and includes a nice selection of Windows Phone titles. For this week's roundup, we will pull a handful of titles from the Made by Microsoft Collection.

If you have a favorite app or game from Microsoft that isn't mentioned, feel free to toss out your recommendation in the comments below. We understand that there are other quality apps and games from Microsoft that (for whatever reason) did not make the Collection such as Crimson Dragon, Wordament, Shuffle Party, Microsoft Health or any of the Bing apps ( Sports, Weather, Food and Drink, etc.). Please understand we are only spotlighting apps and games that are in this Collection and there is nothing afoot if your favorite isn't mentioned.

Trial Xtreme 4 is a relatively new Windows Phone game that puts you behind the handle bars of a motorcycle where you race opponents across some rather inventive courses. Courses that are filled with crazy obstacles to jump over, ride through and all too often find yourself eating the pavements as you wipe out.

Available for low-memory Windows Phones, we received a few tips to review Trial Xtreme (thanks everyone) and took the game out for a spin. It is not too shabby of a Windows Phone game to pass the time with but can be a little frustrating at times due to course difficulty.

During Build 2015 today, Microsoft announced the release of a new tool to help people easily build Minecraft mods in Visual Studio.

The tool is an add-on for Visual Studio that allows users to create their own mods from scratch or using one of three templates provided with the add-on. Importantly, the add-on isn't meant to replace current tools, but is instead meant to give developers extra options for creating their mods in Visual Studio's development environment.

One Drop of Life is a relatively new Windows Phone game that is designed to raise our awareness of the importance of water while having a little fun in the process.

You have to navigate a water droplet through a maze of twigs, leafs and toxic waste to reach a collection of crops. As you play the game, factoids will pop-up to help you realize the importance that one drop can have worldwide.

Available for low-memory Windows Phones and Windows 8 devices, we received several requests to review One Drop of Life (thanks everyone) and found it to be a wonderfully drawn up and challenging game to pass the time with.

Metro 2033 is a Windows Phone strategy game based on the Dmitry Glukhovsky's novel Metro 2033. The story behind the game places you in a post-apocalyptic world where global powers have unleashed their nuclear weapons, forcing thousands underground to survive.

The Windows Phone game has you gathering resources to survive, rebuilding communities and battling mutants throughout the metro system. Metro 2033 Wars is available for low-memory devices and has over 170 metro stations to explore and over 70 missions available to tackle. First impressions of Metro 2033 Wars are nice but the game may be better suited for longer gaming sessions than shorter bits.

Lep's World 3 is a relatively new Windows Phone game where evil trolls have stolen a Leprechaun village's stash of gold, along with kidnapping the residents. The platformer game has 120 levels to navigate, plenty of monsters to avoid as you recover your gold and rescue the villagers.

Available for low-memory Windows Phones, we stumbled upon Lep's World 3 the other day while searching the Store's aisles. Seeing that it pulls down a solid 4.5 star rating, we took Lep's World 3 out for a test drive to see what all the excitement is about.

Wildly popular iOS and Android puzzle game "Threes!" has made its way to Windows Phone today after making its Xbox debut late in 2014. Best of all? It's free.

If you're unfamiliar with Threes, the object of the game is pretty simple. Players are tasked with sliding tiles to combine matching numbers while trying to get the highest score you can before the board is full. If it sounds fairly straightforward, that's because it is—and that simplicity is what makes the game so attractive.
