Windows Phone Games

Swappy Colors is a Windows Phone game where you have to re-order colored pins into matching groups. You will have to shift the pins around the game board, re-organize them so that only the same styled pins are grouped together. The goal sounds simple but you are racing the clock to see how fast you can solve the puzzle. When the dust settles, your times are compared to others on a worldwide leaderboard.

Available for low-memory Windows Phones, Swappy Colors will test your concentration, speed and ability to sort objects. We were tipped on the game and after playing Swappy Colors over the past few days, it comes across as a fun Windows Phone game to pass the time with. I'm just not sure how well it can hold up to marathon gaming sessions.

The game has plenty of power-ups, upgrades and missions to tackle. The graphics are nice and game play rather challenging. You also have one of the more unique driving controls with Smash Cops Heat. The game is available for low-memory Windows Phones and Windows 8 devices and after playing the Windows Phone version over the past few days, Smash Cops Heat comes across as an entertaining title to have in your Windows Phone gaming library.

Every game publisher has its strengths, and many of them have their niches – particular things they focus on as well. European publisher Game Insight practically owns the city building genre on Windows Phone, having released numerous entries like 2020 My Country, The Tribez, and Big Business Deluxe. Of course they all vary in theme, and sometimes quality.

Lucky for fans of the genre, Game Insight has just released one of its best city building games on Windows Phone and Windows 8: Transport Empire. In Transport Empire, you'll manage a network of trains, ships, and airships (but mostly trains) as they travel across a fictionalized Europe to deliver goods and reap profits. If you like trains, this free to play title is worth a look.

Game Troopers (Gametroopers.net) is a studio dedicated to bringing games to Windows Phone and Windows. More importantly, those games are often Xbox Live enabled with those coveted Achievements. Two of their games have received updates this morning, as the company looks to continue to support their work in the Store.

The patches are for Tiny Troopers and Make it Rain. The updates are mostly related to performance and bug fixes, but we have the changelogs for both since we know you folks like the details.

One of the more popular genres of Windows Phone games are the shooter games. Whether it is a first-person shooter or an arcade styled shooter, these games can be addictive, entertaining and a fantastic way to pass the time with.

With the popularity of the movie American Sniper, we were curious if there were any long distance shooting games available in the Windows Phone Store. For this week's roundup, we will take a look at some of the top rated shooter games that focus more on your ability to reach out and smack your target from a distance. The games will test your speed, patience and ability to hold your aim steady.

Haunted - Dungeons of Herwood is a Windows Phone game where you have to tackle forty five dungeon levels. The game does not tackle dungeon hunting in the traditional action/adventure approach but rather presents the dungeon levels more of a maze filled with trap doors, puzzles and plenty of treasure. While you do have a few monsters to contend with, you do so with stealth and timing.

Haunted - Dungeons of Herwood has a casual pace, simple interface and the dungeons can be challenging to navigate through. If you prefer your gaming from a larger screen, there is a version of Haunted available for Windows 8 devices, which plays out nicely from tablets.

The Impossible Path is a Windows Phone game that will test your visual memory and ability to steadily trace a path between two points. It is a puzzle game, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

The Impossible Path has over one hundred levels of play that span three difficulty levels. Graphics are minimal and while game play starts off a little on the slow side, it doesn't take long to pick up the speed. After playing the game for the past few days, The Impossible Path comes across as an entertaining Windows Phone game to pass the time with.

Pulpi Rescue is a fast paced Windows Phone puzzle game that has you eliminating fish as they storm the beaches where pulp, who I believe is an octopus, is located.

Regardless as to what type creature the main character is, the Windows Phone game includes two gaming modes to keep you busy, decent graphics and a game pace that has a little zip. I will warn you that the game is plagued with ads for other gaming titles from the developer but if you can look past these ads, Pulpi Rescue has potential.

Bunny Goes Boom is a simple, easy to play Windows Phone game that has you piloting a rocket that has a bunny rabbit strapped to it. You'll have to steer the rocket around a host of obstacles to see how high you can fly it.

The slightest nick against any of the dangers will cause the rocket to explode and the bunny to go boom. Available for low-memory Windows Phones, Bunny Goes Boom isn't a difficult game to pick up but you may be surprised how challenging something so simple can be. I'm not sure it can hold up to hours of game play but for shorter periods, Bunny Goes Boom might be an option to consider.

There is a wide variety of Windows Phone games available in the Store, many designed to educate and entertain our children. While these games may not appeal to everyone, if you have children these Windows Phone titles can come in handy. Whether it is for long road trips or waiting for a table at a restaurant, these titles can keep your children occupied and teach them a few things along the way.

The Windows Phone Store has a series of collections that group themed apps and games together, making it easier to find the Windows Phone title you are looking for. The For the Kids Collection groups a couple of dozen children's games together. We have visited this collection before and thought it was a good time to revisit things. For this week's roundup, we have plucked four titles from the For the Kids Collection to highlight.
