Windows Phone Games

Amsterdam-based game developer and publisher Lunagames says that it has recorded over five million downloads of its titles made for Windows Phone since it launched its first games for Microsoft's operating system in May 2014. It now plans to increase its Windows Phone support with the aim of doubling its game downloads by the end of 2014.

We're into the home stretch, 2014! This week is probably one of the biggest of 2014, so get your wallets ready. As we all know, this week Microsoft will be unleashing Halo: The Master Chief Collection to your living rooms as what is probably the biggest Xbox One release of the year. Ubisoft also has a pair of games coming out. One features a master assassin while the other is a lesser known title and is Kinect only. A superhero makes his first debut on Xbox one as well as indie hit Terraria. Continue reading for the full list of this week's releases.

Amazing Ninja is a Windows Phone game that has a minimalistic design and feel but is not without challenge. The story line behind Amazing Ninja has you playing the role of a young ninja warrior whose girlfriend has been captured by an evil witch.

Game play with Amazing Ninja is a little less dramatic. You jump your ninja through a maze of passages to eventually reach your girlfriend. The game is available for low-memory devices, Amazing Ninja does not have many bells and whistles and can be a rather frustrating game at times. While some may find Amazing Ninja to be a fun time waster, others will be turned off by the overbearing ads that appear throughout the game.

Windows Phone Game Roundup: Hidden Object Games

For those not familiar, the Windows Phone Store has combed through the hundreds of thousands of apps and games to create a series of Collections to help users get started in the right direction. You have Collections for voice command apps, photo apps, Disney games, racing games and more.

This week's Windows Central roundup is going to focus on the Hidden Object Games Collection. These titles offer a casual approach to gaming and call upon you to find objects hidden in plain sight, much as you would find in a game of I Spy. While the games lack fast paced action, they can still present their fair share of challenges. They test your powers of observation, patience and most will throw in a few mysteries to solve along the way.

Nova Bacon is an arcade styled Windows Phone game where you are in charge of supplying the pork products (a.k.a. pigs) for an outer space fly-thru restaurant. You'll snatch up wayward pigs as they roam the earth and protect them from attempts by humans to save them from slaughter as you haul them to your restaurant in outer space.

Available for low-memory devices, Nova Bacon is another Microsoft Garage project and isn't a terrible game to pass the time with. It could use a little fine-tuning as game play does feel a little drawn out.

Last night, fellow Windows Central staffer Sam Sabri and I hopped online to Twitch stream Halo: The Master Chief Collection for Xbox One. We were lucky enough to play competitive matches in all six Halo 2: Anniversary maps, closing out the night with a visit to Beaver Creek, a classic map from Halo 2. See this story for videos from the stream.

Tonight, Sam and I are dishing out one last preview of the Master Chief Collection, this time by playing campaign missions from Halo 2 and 4 in online co-op! Join us at Twitch.tv/Eastxtwitch at 8pm Central (6pm Pacific, 9pm Eastern) for a final early taste of the greatest Halo game/collection of all time.

Update: The stream is over. Congrats to the winners!

Microsoft has a bundle of cool game bundles for the Xbox One console on sale for the holidays, but it has not forgotten the older Xbox 360. This week, the company introduced a new $179 version of the nine-year old console with a 4GB hard drive and a code to get a free downloadable copy of PopCap's recent casual game Peggle 2.

Balls in Line Lite is a Windows Phone game that is described as a remake of the classic game Color Lines that has been fine-tuned to meet today's gamers needs. I'm not exactly sure what "today's gamers needs" means but Balls in Line Lite seems to have more of a board game feel and slightly better graphics than it's predecessors .

Available for low memory devices, Balls in Line Lite has two gaming modes where you are tasked with creating lines of at least five or 2x2 squares of the same colored balls. The game takes on a bit of a casual pace with no timer to race and has its fair share of challenges. At first glance, Balls in Line Lite comes across as a good title to have handy in your Windows Phone gaming library when you are in the mood for a casual puzzle game.
